Hi there,
I have decided to make a difference by creating my very own fundraising page for Melanoma March. Unfortunately this year, due to health reasons, I won't be joining everyone at Rodd Point for the March this year. Even though I can't be there in person, it is still important to me to raise awareness and I plan to walk my way close to home this year.
Many of you know my story already. Since being diagnosed with melanoma in 2021 I have been through 3 different treatment protocols, including 2 clinical trials and have undergone multiple surgeries. Due to recent developments, my treatment is ongoing. I remain positive and extremely grateful to be in the care of Prof Georgina Long (2024 Australian of the Year) and her amazing team at MIA. The work they are doing is truly groundbreaking and is saving lives.
Skin cancer is no joke. Australia has the highest melanoma rates in the world. One person is diagnosed with melanoma every 30 minutes and one person dies from the disease every 6 hours. It is the most common cancer affecting 20–39-year-old Australians.
We need to stop glamourising tanning. A tan is skin cells in trauma, and the glamourisation of tanning in advertising, social media and media is promoting a behaviour which we know kills.
Please take this seriously. If you have kids or teenagers please impress upon them the dangers of skin cancer and encourage sun safe behaviour. Trust me, prevention is so much better than cure.
Through here you can easily support my efforts by making a secure donation. All funds raised will go towards Melanoma Institute Australia’s life-saving research. I would also really appreciate it if you could share my page or comment so more people know about it.
